Taking automations to the next level with SmartApps
Like Routines, SmartApps let you tell your Things what to do and when to do it. But unlike Routines, SmartApps offer device-specific control to truly customize your SmartThings experience.
How to add a SmartApp:
In the SmartThings Classic app, go to Automation, select the SmartApps tab, and then tap Add a SmartApp.
SmartApps are organized into categories based on their function. The SmartThings Recommends category is a great place to start.
Select the SmartApp you want to install; for this example, we’ll choose Smart Lights.
Configure the SmartApp much like you configure a Routine. (NOTE: If you select a SmartApp that doesn’t work with any of your Things, you won’t be able to configure it.)
When you’re done configuring the SmartApp, tap Next.
Give the SmartApp a new name (or keep the default name). When you’re done, tap Done.
Tap Done again to save your new SmartApp.
Your new SmartApp should now appear in Automation. You can use the SmartApp on its own, add it to Routines, associate it with new Things and more.
Some SmartApps are created by SmartThings while others have been created by enthusiastic SmartThings customers or Community members. While we cannot guarantee full operation of Community-submitted SmartApps, we do our best to provide support for them whenever possible.
