Adding Things to your smart home

SmartThings is compatible with many, many, many amazing smart devices (we call them Things), from light bulbs to refrigerators. The more Things you add, the smarter your home becomes.

Adding and configuring Things is pretty painless, but let’s take a quick look at the process to help you get the hang of it.

Before you start:

  • Make sure your smart device is compatible with SmartThings by visiting our Works with SmartThings page or by searching the SmartThings Marketplace within the app.
  • Review your device’s documentation to learn how to get it ready for pairing. It may require batteries or have an activation tab that needs to be removed.
  • Make sure the smart device is within 15 feet of your Hub for initial pairing, especially with locks.
